Today Amazon.com announced two things.
First, the Kindle 2 has a price reduction! It’s going from $299 to $259!
That’s awesome news. I paid $399 for my Kindle 1 in December 2007. To see that this awesome product has decreased in price by $140 is very nice.
And secondly, the Kindle is also now available Internationally! For only $20 more you can access the Whispersync Network from all over the World. Here’s a wireless access map to see if you’re covered where you need or want to be!
So if you live outside of the US you can now purchase the Kindle with the International access. Or if you travel internationally you can now take advantage of purchasing on the go internationally.
And don’t forget. There’s also the Amazon Kindle DX! It’s a larger version of the Kindle 2 and not really for the everyday book reader. It’s also a bit pricey available at $489.
And for quick reference here’s a chart that shows the differences in the Kindle 2, Kindle International, and the Kindle DX.
And of course people are still selling the first generation Kindle 1 used for about $149.
I know that not very many readers have resorted to purchasing an ereader. Or have chosen to purchase different brands such as Sony.
I personally love my Kindle. I’m am very instant gratification kind of girl. I love that I could buy a book while sun bathing on the beach last year.
There are tons of reasons why some people just won’t purchase an ereader but I’m a pretty simple person. I know there are limits with the Kindle and I’m okay with them.
What do you think? Is Amazon.com headed in the right direction? I think this is a good sign that soon every person will be able to afford an ereader, whether it’s an Amazon.com Kindle 2, Kindle DX, or even a Sony. :)
Ohhhh! Kindle goes International??? that's amazing! I have to admit one of the reasons i wasn't sure about buying an e-reader is that i live in France and i don't want limitations on what i can or cannot buy. I have this problem with Itunes which won't let me buy albums that aren't on the French itunes, but most of the music i like isn't on the French Itunes...anyway what i mean is that if Kindle has an international access i might finally buy one! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm still not sure about this because i love my physical copies of book so much i'm not sure i could love e-books as much
RE: pattepoilue
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean but it isn't that bad! Plus there are tons of FREE (or discounted) books on the Kindle each month. That is almost worth it!
I still read physical books too! I just get in a mood where I want a real book in my hands!
No way! I didn't think this would ever happen.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen a ladybug do a happy dance? :)
Oh, scratch that. It's still not available in Canada. Darn fine print.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the reasons why i want a ebook reader, because there's so many discounts or free books! And i can't discount the fact that i could have a book in less than a minute, while if i want a paper copy i have to order it and wait for it to be shipped.
ReplyDeleteBut there's been so many problems with the Kindle that i'm not sure a 100%.
I'm really torn here, i guess i'm bound to buy one sooner or later ;)
You seem to love yours so that means it can't be that bad
ps: i try to always check back when i leave a comment ;)
(or, yeah when i'm lazy i use the 'follow-up comments' feature)
Oh wow! I've been wanting one but I live in Scotland. This is perfect! I don't have much room in my flat, and having e-books would really be a great thing for me. It's small enough to curl up with just like a book also! Great news!!
ReplyDeleteveeery interesting...
ReplyDeletei might actually buy one
I have a Sony Reader which I really like. If I was to get another ereader, I would probably consider getting the new ASUS reader coming out later this year. It has dual color screens that open and closes like a book, wireless capabilities and much more.
ReplyDeleteBut I think the price drop was a good move on Amazon's part.
I'm sooooo torn about whether I want one or not. The price drop does push it closer to a yes. Might go on the Christmas list.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I'll be a Kindle owner one day. Especially with the price drop. I love instant gratification.
ReplyDeleteIts good news that the kindle is now international. I still can't afford a kindle.
