What an exciting morning! I sat at my PC this morning waiting in anticipation to hear what would be unveiled at the Amazon press conference held at 10:00 am. The rumors were that there would be a new tablet device unveiled. The rumors would be correct! And there was more!

Kindle Fire

The Kindle Fire is a 7" tablet that incorporates all kinds of media via wi-fi connectivity. It uses IPS display technology (used by iPads), has 8 GB of interanl storage (Free unlimited Amazon content storage via Amazon Cloud), weights 14.6 ounces and 8 hours of continous reading or 7.5 hours play battery life. It's basically a smaller iPad without the 3G possibility with a MUCH smaller price tag: $199. (An iPad starts at $499 with 16 GB of storage, which is double what the Fire offers, so it's compariable if you require more internal storage). Fire will release on November 15th and pre-orders are available as of today with a first come first served. Get in line now!

Kindle Wi-Fi (no 3G option)

The Kindle has been redesigned! Say goodbye to the keyboard and hello to a smaller, thinner version! This is truly a great deal! Only want an e-reader? The Kindle is just what you need in a perfect little package with a perfect little price: $79. (with Special Offers) (Without Special Offers you'd pay $109) . It's so small it'll fit in the back pocket of your jeans!

Kindle Touch Wi-fi & Touch 3G

Now do you want an e-reader with a bit of pizzazz? Love the feel of a touch screen tablet but don't want to fork over the extra cash for one? Then the Touch is probably what you'd like. It has a pretty incredible touch screen (I'd suggest watching the video on Amazon). It has a very cool new feature called X-ray. It will automatically download extra information from Wikipedia and Shelfari about the book so you can access it whenever you want with a simple touch of the screen. This new technology is amazing. And so is the price! Kindle Touch Wi-fi: $99 with Special Offers or $139 without Special Offers! Under $100 for a very cool e-reader device. Kindle Touch 3G: $149 with Special Offers or $189 without Special Offers. I like the idea of the Fire but I'm wondeirng if it's better than the iPad? I don't own an iPad but I'd love to. I hate the cost of the iPad but it's comparible because it has double the amount of internal storage as the Fire. I probably won't buy this quite yet but it's really cool to see technology advancing!

Kindle for BlackBerry

Amazon has a beta version of Kindle for BlackBerry owners. If you took my advice before and downloaded the Kindle for PC then you already have a library of FREE Kindle books. Now, you can read them on your BlackBerry if you own one.

 

The application is easy to install, just input your email address and open the app on your BlackBerry.

I picked up a copy of this at BEA in May. I haven’t read it yet but I really want to. Here’s the cover that the ARC has. I really like this and I’m not sure why they changed it. Maybe it wasn’t dark enough?

I do like the flaming W with the heads popping out the sides one better than that one but I love the blue cover.

Amazon Kindle Goes International!

Today Amazon.com announced two things.

First, the Kindle 2 has a price reduction! It’s going from $299 to $259!

That’s awesome news. I paid $399 for my Kindle 1 in December 2007. To see that this awesome product has decreased in price by $140 is very nice.

 

And secondly, the Kindle is also now available Internationally! For only $20 more you can access the Whispersync Network from all over the World. Here’s a wireless access map to see if you’re covered where you need or want to be!

 

So if you live outside of the US you can now purchase the Kindle with the International access. Or if you travel internationally you can now take advantage of purchasing on the go internationally.

And don’t forget. There’s also the Amazon Kindle DX! It’s a larger version of the Kindle 2 and not really for the everyday book reader. It’s also a bit pricey available at $489.

And for quick reference here’s a chart that shows the differences in the Kindle 2, Kindle International, and the Kindle DX.

And of course people are still selling the first generation Kindle 1 used for about $149.

 

I know that not very many readers have resorted to purchasing an ereader. Or have chosen to purchase different brands such as Sony.

I personally love my Kindle. I’m am very instant gratification kind of girl. I love that I could buy a book while sun bathing on the beach last year.

There are tons of reasons why some people just won’t purchase an ereader but I’m a pretty simple person. I know there are limits with the Kindle and I’m okay with them.

What do you think? Is Amazon.com headed in the right direction? I think this is a good sign that soon every person will be able to afford an ereader, whether it’s an Amazon.com Kindle 2, Kindle DX, or even a Sony. :)

Kindle DX!

The Amazon Kindle DX was announced yesterday and is now live on Amazon.com for pre-order!

The Amazon Kindle DX has a 9.7" diagonal e-ink display and a $489 price tag.

It's massive compared to the smaller Kindle, which I <3.

What do you think?

I think it's pretty cool! I don't think I'd use one for my everyday reading but I think it would be neat to use for text books, newspapers, magazines (if color were an option only!) and the like.

I could see this being a huge hit if it were in color. Not so much as black and white. Why isn't it in color yet!?

Originality:
Corine has a special gift of being able to touch objects and "read" them. Some objects hold a charge that Corine can see. This was about the only cool thing in this book.

Characters:
Corine Solomon: special gifted woman, running from ex-boyfriend Chance because they used to work together and she nearly got killed so she blames him. She was living in Mexico City until Chance found her. He needed help. She's a very weak character, literally. Her only good thing is the crack of her tongue and her gift of touching objects. Other than that she's kind of bland.

Chance: He's the hot, dark skinned, asian mixed male character. His "gift" is that he can influence situations with his "Chance" gift. He's totally in love with Corine but he doesn't do much to win her back. I mean come on! If you want a girl you don't let her run away and not track her down after 18 months until you need her "gift". Lame.

Chuch & Eva: Married couple that helps Chance and Corine. He's a super cool dude and his wife is a kick ass woman. They would have made better lead characters.

There are a few other minor characters that were important to the story line but they weren't great characters.

Writing:
This was my first book by Ann Aguirre. I most likely will not read any other books by her. The writing wasn't terrible. I blame the characters. I didn't like the characters. There wasn't much to laugh at, there was little to no passion, and I just didn't click with the story or the characters.

Setting:
Most of the story took place in or incredibly near Mexico. There was a lot of Spanish in the book. Some of it was translated word for word but there were some times that I don't think it was translated word for word and it left me questioning exactly what was said. I think it's okay to use foreign speech in a book but only if it's common knowledge. There were quite a few times I didn't know what the hell was being said and I took three years of high school Spanish! The setting didn't help the story what so ever. If anything, I think it made it worse for me.

Plot:
Now this is probably where it all went wrong for me. The plot centers around the disappearence of Chance's mom Min. They work together to find her. It's not entirely interesting to find out what happened to her. The characters we meet along the way are lacking. The fued between Chance and Corine is just overdone and old by the end of the book that I almost hope they don't get back together.

Passion:
It's there but like so not there. Chance is a hottie that likes a nottie. Corine does not impress me whatsoever and honestly I think I hate her. She's totally screwed up and fighting her own self esteem or selfishness on the whole ordeal with taking back Chance. Blah.

Cover:
And last but not least. The Cover. The Title. WTF? Blue Diablo? I thought the title was cool. I thought that this book was going to be amazing. The title is from Corine's favorite alcoholic beverage. A blue diablo. It has nothing to do with the story. It's like the author or publisher was like, "What do we call it?". It doesn't have anything catching so they called it the drink of choice and gave it the "Corine Solomon Novels" series name. The cover it's self isn't that great but the drink does look kinda cool.

Overall:
Not a fan. I'm really surprised that I even finished it. I guess I was still clinging to a last hope that Corine and Chance would make up but I don't know why I even gave it a second thought. I probably will not read any follow ups because I don't like being pulled around by my heartstrings by characters or authors. Chance deserves better. I know I sound bitter but I can't help it.
